The Baroque palace gardens at Schönbrunn are among the largest in Europe.   Visitors are rewarded with beautiful views    of the city from the majestic tree-lined boulevards.

Not just a sight for sore eyes from the outside: the KHM houses the world’s   largest Bruegel collection, while its ancient Egyptian collections and Kunstkammer are full of wonders.

Josefsplatz and the Joseph II memorial are located part of the imperial Hofburg palace complex. The square also provided the backdrop for silver screen classic The Third Man.

The Habsburg Empire was ruled from Vienna’s Hofburg palace for more than 700 years. In front of the palace is Heldenplatz, a square that also contains the striking statues of Prince Eugene of Savoy  and Archduke Karl on horseback.

The Gloriette sits on an incline high above Schönbrunn, in all its majestic glory. There are fantastic views of Vienna to be had here – best enjoyed  in the cafe inside over coffee and cake.

The Belvedere is a magnificent Baroque palace, and home to one of the most valuable art collections in Austria – its exhibits included masterpieces by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka.

The place to see the biggest names in the world of opera. Thanks to the quality of its productions, the Vienna State Opera is one of the world’s leading opera houses.

“The Burg”, as it is affectionately known to locals, is one of the top German-language theater venues. Inside, it contains various artistic gems, including a self-portrait by Gustav Klimt.

Known locally as Steffl, St. Stephen’s Cathedral is Vienna’s best-known landmark. But the chain carousel in the Prater amusement park also has cult status. As well as great views of the city.

A bridge that connects. The 2nd and 22nd districts in this particular case. A subway-only bridge, the Donaustadtbrücke entered into service in 1997.

Austria’s tallest building (250 meters at its highest point) was designed by French star architect Dominique Perrault. The Hotel Melia’s 57 Lounge bar is the perfect place to savor a drink with a view.
